“Providing residents with the knowledge, skills, and individualized support to help them buy their first home”
Purchasing a home can be a worthy goal to achieve, but it can also be a confusing and overwhelming task to undertake. To make matters worse, predatory lending practices have become widespread in our community, regularly targeting many low-income families. The Homeownership Center of LCW helps members of the community become knowledgeable and stable long-term homeowners by emphasizing financial literacy, mortgage readiness, anti-predatory lending education, and consumer protection.
The program can be tailored to each individual participant and offers comprehensive homeownership education through a series of steps, from orientation to education to resource connections.
Our trained and certified counselors provide credit and budget counseling, mortgage pre-qualification and financial analysis, access to financial assistance and affordable homeownership programs and planning advice with the goal of assisting participants assess their readiness and prepare them for the Homeownership step.
Our group conducts Homeownership Education Seminars which are certified by NeighborWorks America, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Citizens Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA), and Mass Housing Finance Agency. We cover every step of the home-buying process.
If needed, the Center also facilitates the homebuyer’s relationship with an extensive network of reputable attorneys, real estate brokers, lenders and other professionals, serving as a sounding board for individual decisions.
Once homeownership is achieved, the Homeownership Center continues to provide education and counseling services to help new and current homeowners achieve long-term homeownership success. Members are invited to post-purchase counseling and workshops covering smart refinancing, multi-family ownership (landlord training) and condominium ownership education, wealth accumulation strategies and long-term financial planning, basic maintenance, rehabilitation and energy efficiency education, and foreclosure intervention.
Our mission is to build strong neighborhoods one homeowner at a time! Lawrence CommunityWorks, Inc. is a Massachusetts Housing Partnership approved “Home Safe” Post Purchase Workshop provider.
