Scarito Homes

scaritohomesThe Scarito Homes Project transformed the ½ acre, underutilized parcel in the heart of the North Common Neighborhood, into 10 new green townhouse homeownership opportunities for first time homebuyers.

Project Description

The Scarito Homes Project is comprised of ten new townhouses, including 1 handicapped-accessible two-bedroom home, 8 three-bedroom townhouse homes and 1 four-bedroom home for first time homebuyers. The homes are affordable for families earning less than eighty percent of the area median income.

The site was formerly occupied by the renowned obstetrician Dr. Nina Scarito and the project was designed around preserving the oak heritage tree on the northern corner of the property.

The project is the first housing project in Lawrence to install solar panels on its roof, thus reducing residents’ electricity bills by sixty-six percent. It also incorporates state-of-the-art green design technologies which have received the highest Energy Star rating. Energy Star certification means families can save up to thirty percent on their energy bills. Current homeowners have seen significant savings on utilities within their first year of living in their new homes!

Environmentally-friendly materials were used throughout the Scarito Homes project and ninety-five of the construction waste was recycled. Eco-friendly systems installed also include dual-flush toilets which can reduce water usage up to sixty percent.
