Nurturing Legends, Building a Legacy
Twenty years of Lawrence youth creating, leading, and shaping the future of their city.
Movement City is a network of young Lawrencians, ages 10 to 19, who are exploring their potential and helping shape the future of the city. Lawrence is one of the youngest cities in the Commonwealth, with 30% of its 85,000+ residents under 19. Movement City invests in those young people as producers of culture, not just consumers of it.
Members choose from workshops in dance, music production, video, graphic design and animation, fine arts, singing, robotics, and more. Academic support, college preparation, financial education, leadership training, civic engagement, and an in-house college scholarship fund back up that creative work.
Since 2004, Movement City has been part of Lawrence CommunityWorks. In that time it has grown into a launchpad for hundreds of young people headed to college and other opportunities.
